I unplugged my GE chest freezer for 3 months, When i plugged it back in the compressor runs but the freezer wont get cold.
The freezer sat in the same spot for 3 months and wouldn't get cold after it was plugged back up.
The area that the compressor is in is clean and looks like new.
I never had a problem with it until i unplugged it.
I'm not sure what the rod might have been, the inside of an air tank is pretty simple.
Replacement drain valves are available in a variety of configurations, and generally they thread into a nut welded into the tank. It's then just a matter of finding an appropriate replacement valve (relatively easy) and removing the old one (probably much harder).
To help get the frozen valve out, you could (should) try penetrating oil to free what are almost certainly frozen threads, but you may need to step up to using a torch to apply heat to help break the part loose.
I'm guessing that coiled up wire at the top right is the thermocouple. Do I see a silver tip thing on the end of it? You can splice thermocouple wires if you use ceramic wire nuts, otherwise you have to trace that back to behind the control panel. Here's some good info at Appliance411. I'm not to keen on electric ovens, but with the door open and perhaps a fan blowing in, I'd like to think you'd see the elements glow at least briefly in order to eliminate element or control knob problems.

Worked when unplugged is all very well, but does not have any impact on what it does (n't do) NOW.
It's dead NOW, recycle it (or waste quite probably more than it's worth trying to get it repaired. Your call.)
