I'm trying to remove a Falcon door lock that was installed around 2007. I hope to replace it with a Nest x Yale lock. I don't know the exact model of the current lock. It doesn't look like Falcon makes this type of lock anymore, though this is the closest current model I could find: Falcon MA series. I was able to remove half the lock. It seems that something inside is preventing me pulling the final piece out. See attached photos.
If this is something you will only need to do one time, swap out the latchset. The chance of dropping the pins are high the first time around, but with care, it can be done. I know this from experience. The new latchset gives new longevity as well.
If this will be a recurring thing get the keying kit, I see them online and you can pick them up for as little as the cost of a new latchset, for the smaller kits. There are really cheap ones too, but I know nothing of what they have the capability of doing other than rekeying one knob.
I have no faith in the smartkey setup, but I am a purist when it comes to locks. I do not claim to know about smartkeys, but if it is a matter of putting in one key, installing a specific tool, and then put in the new key and remove the tool and it changes the lock, sounds like somebody with the original and a new key, and the same special tool can do the same.
You can cut a stick to lay in the track where the door slides, that's an old trick. You can also drill a vertical hole in the track, say an inch deep, and drop a 2" nail in there, to block the door from sliding open, similar idea.

For obvious reason the locks a build in such way that nothing can be unscrewed from the outside.
You removed all the screws you can find.
Now you need to unscrew the key cylinder from outside. It should come out without resistance, but if you have to use players.
