Control where in the toilet bowl the flush water goes
toilet
When I flush the toilet the water mostly comes in from the front of the bowl. Is there something I can do so it covers more of the back?
There are more and bigger holes toward the front of the bowl:

This is the design of the toilet. This pushes any solids and paper to the “well” in the back. If you don’t think you have enough flow a product like CLR can be used (turn water supply off, flush put clr in tank and flush” you may want to use a towel to keep the clr in the holes for a bit longer , then turn water back on and see if that opened things up. CLR is a product that dissolves Calcium, Lime & Rust. It works quite well on plumbing fixtures and I have done the above procedure to clear the rust stains so the toilet looked better for longer.
Open up the back part of your toilet and push down firmly on the flush valve ball (the flap that goes up and down when you press the toilet lever) after you flush the toilet. Your ball/flap probably is leaking a bit and eventually settles after a flush. These can be replaced by following a set of instructions and spending $15.
EDIT: Um, after re-reading the question, I wonder if the toilet isn't simply clogged. Does the tank re-fill and water stop flowing into the tank after flushing (you can hear when water is flowing)? If the tank re-fills and water shuts off, it isn't the flapper. If the tank re-fills and water stops, then it sounds more like the toilet is simply clogged. Did you try a plunger? If that does work and the tank does refill properly, then you'll need the drain snaked I think.
