I am installing this appliance that has two identical white wires and an earth wire. I am stuck on which white to connect to live (Brown) and which white to connect to neutral (Blue). My mains color codes are:
Brown===Live
Blue===Neutral
Yellow===Earth
Diffferentiate between two whites and earth. How to know which is live and neutral. There are very identical. I am installing the appliance

If you have a house wide ground fault current interrupter then you could connect a lamp across the yellow and green and see if it trips.
Your box has 3 inputs, the black and green both come from the left and bottom (in your picture) while the yellow comes from the right. Presumable to switches and other lights. They are meant to be connected together either in a pigtail or in the fixture if the connection is rated for multiple wires.
The color code looks to be "UK prior to 2004" based on this page, which is consistent with the fact that the building predates 2004 and that the UAE often uses British standards.

tien tung ma t'a lan xien <--> xien xiu qi "N" t'ou
tien tung ma t'a huang xien <--> xien xiu qi "A" t'ou
tien tung ma t'a hei xien <--> xien xiu qi "B" t'ou
and of course
tien tung ma t'a qing xien <--> tien li kou ku chiang (qing) xien
I can't imagine why anyone would be confused by this.

Use a voltmeter with black voltmeter lead to ground and test the other 2 one at a time.
