Do you have a button switch on the wall to open - close? There are usually two wires going to that. I don't think it will hurt to short those wires momentarily to test it. If it did, Lift Master would get a lot of returns because I'm certain many people have shorted the wired pair upon installation. My Craftsman has two wires going to a multiple switch panel. I can open - close the door, turn on-off the opener light, and lock the remote controls. These functions are controlled by adding a resistance to the wired pair. each control has a different resistance. The open-close is just a short. the unit remembers what direction it went the time before. IE: if you short once to open the door, then short again will close the door.
It sounds like the controller needs to be reset and the remotes reprogrammed. Usually this requires physical access to the opener, but if you have a hardwired remote it might be possible to pair it via the keypad. Check the manual for your opener.
But back to the problem of how to open it. If the garage does not have an alternative access there should be a manual cable release which disconnects the door from the opener chain so that you can manually open it. Often this is in the form of a small key near your garage door. With the key you can open the lock and pull the manual release.

If the installation was done correctly, you have one of these you just need to find it. If you don't have the key a locksmith should be able to open it for you.
If you do not have a manual release then I think you will have to resort to breaking a window.

Virtually all doors that are between the house and garage open into the house. This means that the hinges are visible from the house side. One alternative is to remove the hinge pins and the door should be able to be pulled inwards toward the house. Modern doors of this type will be a fire break type of door and may be fairly heavy so get assistance if needed to handle moving the thing.
Now you can then figure out the door knob issue from both sides now. If the knob has been broken to the state of non-usability you can replace it at fairly low cost. If necessary there are semi-destructive ways to cut off and removing a broken knob if it has been damaged beyond normal removal methods.
Do yourself a huge favor and get the other entry door locks re-keyed or replaced as soon as possible to prevent access by unauthorized persons that may have copies of the original keys.
