I have doors I would like to electronically control remotely. I have seen door strikes in older NYC apartments that I thought would be perfect: until I remembered the target doors are outswing.
Is there a solution similar to an inswing electronic door strike for outswing doors?
Instead of changing the size of the opening, use a pair of 24" doors in the "bypass door" configuration. They'll overlap 4" when closed and you'll have a 20" opening when they're open.
If you want to increase the 20" opening, you can cut the doors to make them narrower and this will still be less work than changing the size of the doorway. Even garbage MDF doors can be narrowed almost an inch on each side, especially if you're not attaching hinges or real doorknobs.
Expanding on my comment: I think that the main problem with the proposed setup is lacking a slide or rail on the bottom. Without a slide on the bottom the glass door can swing perpendicular to the sliding direction. See the below explanation for what I mean.

The door is sliding in the direction of the blue arrows. The U channel on the bottom is keeping the door from swinging in the direction of the red arrows. This U channel is about 2 CM long and seems to be made from aluminium.

Yes, there are outswing electronic strikes. Sometimes you see a cover plate bolted onto the door to prevent tampering with these. There are also magnetic locks that can be installed in both in and outswing configurations.
