So I just bought a 1800mm by 1200mm whiteboard for my study and what never occurred to me (stupidly enough) is how to mount this thing to a drywall.
It has obviously came with x8 raw plugs and x8 screws (2 each corner).
I am not sure how thick the drywall is, but the house is 20 years old and there is no holes anywhere (and 2 kids were brought up here).
What are my options here?
You don't say what size or gauge the studs are, but regardless, any reasonable stud is more than adequate for the weights involved. I'm not fully clear on what your connections really are, but in general they sound adequate. Are you sure the bulge occurred during the installation and wasn't always there? Drywall walls are rarely perfectly flat when checked with a straight edge. If the bulge were caused by the installation, it is probably the screws pulling the adjacent stud out of plumb due to some misalignment with the other studs and/or the mounted devices.
Metal studs are rather elastic, it doesn't take much side load for them to deflect a few mm. Despite my uncertainty of what you actually did, I'm fairly sure you have no structural issues and do not need to worry about anything failing.
I'd try a few of these keyhole mounting plates:
You'd need to be very precise with screw placement so everything lines up properly. If you're feeling adventurous, you could chisel or route out a recess so the whole thing is flush against the wall. You could also mount the plates to the wall at a stud, using sufficiently long screws, and then use smaller screws on the shelf to clip in.
Another alternative would be to drill mostly through the stock, screw directly into the wall, and plug the holes with dowel.

Drywall (Gypsum board) is not sufficient for hanging things (other than maybe very light picture frames), you'll want to attach the whiteboard to the underlying structure. How you do that, will depend on what the structure is.
