We have an existing dog door that we had installed in the wall for our beagle. We have since acquired a larger dog and she has out grown the door. I'm worried about injuries, so any advice will be much appreciated. Can we make the existing door bigger?

Questions about rental/landlords aside, you could X nail with some construction adhesive and as long as your crown isn't huge (less than 5"), it should stay up fine.
If I was doing this, I'd have temporary bracing (1x2s would be fine) while the glue sets, and add plenty of nails wherever the crown looks loose against the wall/ceiling.
One last tip you didn't ask for... when I do crown, I center it on the wall, shoot the middle to pin it in place, then do the corners with a bit of scrap (cut to the other side of the corner) to tweak the angle perfectly. If you have to twist a lot to make the corners right, then pin the corners and then pull the middle off and do over. If you just have to twist a tiny bit, then keep nailing. Twisting works much better on mdf than wood, obviously.
This is possible, but its not going to be cost effective unless you can do a majority of the work yourself. The door pictured (and any door sold in the last decade) will have two layers of insulated glass. This means that for what you want, you'll need a custom insulated panel made to fit on top of a wooden panel containing the doggie door.

A more cost effective solution might be to use a single layer of thick glass as a replacement panel, but you would loose some insulation properties, and you'd need a wooden frame to hold it into the door (because its not as thick as the original). Smaller pet doors are made to fit into a round hole cut into a glass door, providing a very clean install. Larger 22" tall doors might not be an option for this method, but great for people with "cat flaps".
Last option I can think of is replacing the large panel of glass with a custom made divided-light panel made up of several small windows. You may be able to find off-the-shelf insulated glass panels or have single pane glass cut more economically. The doggie door would simply be framed in place of a lower glass panel.

Usually, yes. It's normally just a matter of removing the old door, cutting the hole bigger for the new one and installing the new one. The challenges come when your door has interesting features like inset panels, hardware, etc.
