I have a circular junction box on my deck (outside) where I can presumably attach an outlet, and it is connected to a switch. I have string lights I'd like to permanently connect to to this outlet (they plug in normally).
What is the best weather-proof solution so that I can keep the lights plugged in, but have the outlet protected from the elements, and use the switch to turn them on and off?
Depending on the device, it should go something like this.
Wiring the device in this way, should allow the switch to control the receptacle. The switch will also control anything connected to the Load terminals, and the Load terminals will be GFCI protected.
NOTE: For outdoor installations, don't forget the in-use weatherproof cover.
One possible idea for this connection is to look for an octagon electrical box cover that looks like this:
Then acquire a box to box electrical connector that looks like this:
This can then be joined to a back hole in an appropriate electrical box that gets surface mounted to the face of the wall. This box would then accommodate the needed outlet and exterior in-use cover assembly.
