The ground wire from the cord and the neutral wire from the dryer were wired together the dryer ran great for about 25 min then quit. Would that be a reason for it to stop?

Based on your updated readings (120v between h1-h2, 120v between h2-neutral, and 240 between h1-neutral), it looks like Hot2 and Neutral have been reversed. Shutoff the breaker, verify there's no voltage, open the outlet, and correct the wiring so you can dry clothes without getting zapped. In the end, you should have this:
DO NOT connect the ground wire to the grounded (neutral) conductor, as this could lead to current flowing through the body of the dryer (and potentially through you).
The installation guide for the dryer will have wiring instructions for both 3, and 4 wire configurations. Check the manufacturers documentation for proper wiring, but I would say the first image is likely correct.

Update:
After doing some research, and looking at dryer wiring diagrams. It turns out that the green/yellow wire is not a ground wire, it is a neutral to case bonding wire. When this wire is not in use (in a 4-wire installation for example), it is simply connected to the neutral terminal and is unused.

Connecting ground and neutral together in an appliance is bad from a safety point of view and is likely to trip upstream GFCIs/RCDs if-any (though I don't think Americans normally have GFCIs on drier circuits) but it will not cause any problems for the appliance itself.
