I find myself caught in the middle here.
My old electric staple gun will fire 1/4" staples but it's not capable of fully setting them because part of the target is some pretty hard wood. The shortest staples I can find for my pneumatic gun are 1/2" and would go clear through and stick out the front.
Is there an answer or do I simply replace the tape the last guy to tackle this used?
Probably just stuck to the paint due to being installed too soon. Rock it gently and see if it cracks loose.
I'd cut a strip of aluminium or similar sheet metal, fit it around the wooden rod and clamp it to the eye-bolt using a separate nut and bolt that pass through holes in the clamping strip and through the eye of the eye bolt.
If I didn't like to look of the bolt I'd see if I could find a large enough rivet or other type of fastener.
