I've just come home from a trip and found that my Optoma HD20 appears to be broken.
When I turned it on, I don't get the usual Optoma logo, but instead unmoving static broken by a black bar.
Prepared to replace – it's served me well since 2012 – but interested in what might have broken, and whether it can be repaired?
I had the 'vertical lines' issue a couple of years ago, which went away when I pushed on top of the bulb, I don't know if that's relevant?

Get yourself some shelf brackets and attach them to your wall into studs. Work out the spacing of the brackets for your screen. The brackets look like this:
Attach some 3/4" hardwood (oak, maple, etc.) planks to it to make a nice looking shelf. Attach the screen underneath the shelves which should conceal the hanging brackets and give you the clearance away from the wall you're looking for. You may want to drill a hole through the shelves and attach the screen using bolts and nuts instead of screwing directly into the wood shelves. You can also use the shelf to display some cool movie knickknacks.
You could also build something fancy using a French Cleat if you have the skills and tools.
4 kg is not very heavy. 2 screws should be no problem, for the weight. 1 cm diameter screws are very strong and would hold 10 times that much weight. Even 4mm to 6mm screws would be plenty enough to hold up 4kg.
Based on the mount that you linked to, you should not need to install it at a 45 degree angle. The tilt section of the mount (as shown in the linked picture) does not rotate, so you probably want to keep the base square/parallel with the screen. The side holes will be enough to secure it.
Is this an exposed beam you are attaching to, or is it a finished ceiling (drywall/sheetrock or plasterboard) with the beam (rafter or joist) above it? If it is a finished ceiling, you also could attach a large board so that it reaches across two beams (such as 15mm to 20mm plywood, perhaps 30cm by 60cm or however far it is between beams), and secure the projector mount to the board. Four screws in the corners of the board to the two beams, and four screws in the corners of the mount to the board, would be very strong and secure.

I fixed it! I tore it down to below the main board and gave the Dmd/main board socket a good clean with some Servisol and reseated (if someone else comes across this, here's a good video guide - https://youtu.be/8iLR2viox8U) and it's back to its usual self. And I only damaged one ribbon connector holder and left one spare spacer on reassembly. £500 saved for now.
