I'm remodeling my kitchen which has a soffit/bulkhead that is 14" deep. I've been looking at ikea cabinets but all of their wall cabinets are 15" deep.
Now, I understand the mechanics of hanging the cabinets should work out fine, but what I'm not sure how to make the 1" overhang look natural. I'm thinking of just getting a decorative trim of some type and running it along the top to kinda hide the overhang.
Anyone have any experience with this or recommendations? Thanks
You can definitely get flexible led strips that are bright enough to do what you want. Many of them run on 12V, which you can easily get from a small power supply, and you could just plug it into an outlet on the counter.
I would put them under the cabinets; it would be easily to hide them there. Many of the strips can be had with adhesive backing, which would just stick under the counter.
To answer your question on the individual lights, the individual LEDs will blend together nicely.
If you look at Amazon, you'll find a lot of solutions, and they are fairly cheap.
Just use these plastic extension fillers.
You might want to remove the receptacles as they can get stuck behind the cabinets if the "ears" on the receptacles are not removed.
Ears are the thin pieces of removable metal tabs on the top and bottom of the receptacle. They have cut lines on them and can be removed using a pair of needle nose pliers.

The way I'm picturing it, there really shouldn't be a problem. Reveals are common in all kinds of woodworking.
The only bad possibility is that the soffit is noticeably out of level, in which case you'd want a strip of scribe (3/4 x 1/4 strip) to hide the variable gap.
