I have a single lever Kohler kitchen faucet. The water comes out with so much pressure that if I am trying to rinse anything it makes water spray everywhere. The faucet has not always done this. Is there any way to make the water come out with less pressure other than to adjust the lever every time I turn it on?

You may need an aerator. If it needs replacing, then the water may spatter a lot. The aerator is the piece that screws into the end of the spigot. It limits the flow of water to between 1.5 and 2.5 gallons per minute and entrains air into the water stream to prevent splashing. From what you describe, it may even be missing. You can pick one up at any hardware store.
Over the weekend I determined what the cause was. Thanks to everyone for the helpful suggestions; the actual problem was slightly different.
The problem was that the sprayer hose was loose on the sprayer end. Since the hose is pressurized when the faucet is on, this meant that the sprayer leaked a little from the bottom while the water was on, and a little bit after turning the faucet off. This meant that the next time you turned the faucet on, the hose was partially empty of water, so it took a second to pressurize the hose before water would come out of the faucet.
Tightening the sprayer hose connection seems to have fixed the problem.

Here are three different options:
Since you said it hasn't always been like this, and it seems as though the faucet is the only thing you're having problems with, I would go with an aerator first. The old one has perhaps fallen out.
