I'm looking at tapping into an existing drain line at the vertical vent, which I understand should be via a horizontal run to a sanitary tee. The vent is 2 inch PVC; the horizontal piece I will install is 2 inch PVC.
But what makes a tee "sanitary?" Everything I can find emphasizes the correct usage of tees vs. wyes instead. Fair enough, but how can I recognize the correct tee?
Specifically, I think I grabbed an equal tee(?) instead — how can I recognize whether I have the right part?
I ended up following Alaska Man's advice and lowered the sanitary tee. After installing the new sink and the disposal, it was obvious that my only option was to take the sanitary tee route. The good news was that I did have access to the other side of the wall so getting at the tee was simple. The unfortunate news was that I really only needed to lower the DWV about an inch.
Here is what my disposal looked like after install - showing the DWV too high by just a bit. The after shows how far I lowered the DWV.
On the other side of the wall, this is where I lowered the sanitary tee about 3 inches total.
Try replacing the tee with a sanitary tee. Use couplers to create threaded ends on the tee.

A sanitary tee has a subtle curve down, I suppose in hopes of keeping your waste going in the right direction.
