I recently installed a new kitchen sink and faucet. It was one of those with the spot for a dish detergent pump.
After getting everything in, I come to find out there just isn't enough room to fit the bottle for the pump.
What I need to do is cut about 2 inches of wood that is about 1/2 inch thick, however, it's in a very awkward position.
Are there any suggestions on what I could use to cut?
Oxalic acid, either in crystal form or as part of a pressure treated deck cleaner/brightner will chemically dissolve the stain. If you use the crystals, use all normal precautions for acids (eye, hand, clothing). You can sparingly apply with a small nylon artists brush. Try 5 min increments (5 on, wipe off, 10 on, wipe off) until the stain starts to disappear.
Once stain disappears, neutralize wood with borax diluted in water or bicarbonate of soda in water.
Replace color with dyes or pigment stains. I like Transtint for its ability to be blended and mixed with either water or alcohol. If you don't like the color direction, you can use bleach and start over.
Once happy with the color, seal it in with a dewaxed shellac. Then top coat with your favorite polyurethane. You may be able to blend the areas by shooting spray poly through a circular mask (5" hole in a 12x12 piece of cardboard, held 5-10 inches away from the floor) which will give you a graduated spray. Practice first.
I am just going to confirm what has already been stated in the comments but add a little more to it. Yes the slats are to help keep spacing and are not structural.....anymore.
During the construction of the roof system these are also used to keep the trusses from falling over with the help of a number of diagonal braces before the plywood roof sheathing is put down. I have in the past, seen in the install guide for roof trusses how to place these braces during assembly, including the diagonals. There has never been a reference about removing them later, but I see no reason to leave them.
As a mention, instead of cutting them out, bring a hammer with you or pry bar and remove the whole thing. Cutting them out brings to mind rough ends, possibly splinters a plenty, and if you are a big guy as I am, while moving between the trusses, the less things to rub against or snag onto the better.

Do you have enough room to use an electric drill with a 2" hole saw? If not, perhaps a Dremel or similar tool with a routing bit?
