I can remember that in the 1990's, people used to watch a thick television that looked like a big box, that you changed the channels by hand. Now we watch a very thin television, and conserve much more electricity.
My question: What are these two different types of televisions called?

The new, thin style of television is often called a flat screen television. People might also call it a plasma television or an LCD television. Plasma and LCD are two different technologies. Flat screen refers to either type.
The thick television is a CRT television. CRT stands for cathode ray tube. People will call it an old-style television more often, though.
