[Ethereum] How to update to the latest wallet version (0.8.3) on Windows 10

I've been using Ethereum for a while and have quite a bit invested so I think it would be wise to update to the latest version. I visited the GitHub page and downloaded the latest Windows installer and found that all it does is open up an un-synced Ethereum wallet on the latest version, without any of my wallets, etc. How do I go about updating the wallet properly and safely?

in the Mist doc, it is indicated that :

For updating simply download the new version and copy it over the old one (keep a backup of the old one if you want to be sure). The data folder for Mist is stored in other places:

Windows %APPDATA%\Mist

The current Mist wallet has a number of open issues on Windows. Fixes are in progress but not available as of yet.

Issues that resemble yours:

You can help the developers by either creating a new issue (if your problem is unique, which it might be because my quick scan didn't see issues explicitly involving Starting Ethereum node...) or reporting your case on an existing issue.

You should also provide them with the logs: go to %APPDATA%/Roaming/Mist/ and copy all the *.log files, as suggested by frozeman in the second link. You could also check them out yourself and see if you find anything meaningful.

Not sure (because you didn't provide full error logs), but I think the problem is with some build-tools, installing it will solve your problem.

npm install -g windows-build-tools

Note: Make sure that you install windows-build-tools globally.
