I was testing out the Snipperclips demo single player with the L Joy-Con, and I realized that I couldn't get back to the home screen without using the R Joy-Con.
Does anyone know of a way to get to the home screen without using the R Joy-Con, or resetting the console? Perhaps some combo of capture button holding and the L/ZL buttons?
This is a known design flaw which is only effecting early models of the Switch.
It's something to do with electrical shielding (or something technical).
First try these steps to make sure you are using the Joy Con correctly

If that didn't work, talk to Nintendo and they will "fix your problem for free" - which means you send in your joy con and they fix it and send it back. This can take up to 2 weeks.

If the Joy-Con are removed from the Switch, they can be charged with the Charging Grip. That also has a USB-C connection, and plugging the cable into the Grip, which is sold separately for $29.99, will charge those controllers up.

Cad97 confirms that this is the answer but that
the charging grip does not have a battery and thus must be plugged in to charge the JoyCon

I'm pretty sure the only way to reach the Home Menu is by using a Home Button, on a controller which has it.
Same goes for the Share Button when wanting a screen capture.
