I want to play and enjoy the game I paid for, but don't want any spam, or to be "tracked".

The 16-cube area is the ancient version of the temple/science warp zone. That QR code was under construction long ago, but it now appears "fully realized" on the same wall in the temple/science warp zone. So it can be completed—indeed, it has been.

I have then extracted the QR code, converted it to black and white, removed Gomez and some dust, and applied a median filter. This is the complete QR code, which you can scan on a website.
I tried several things and found one workaround for the issue.
I created a new game of Fez with another gamer profile and got the first two cubes without running into trouble. I then switched back to my gamer profile and my game doesn't crash anymore.

Fez's QR codes are all text-type.
All text is embedded within the symbol, so it can be accessed offline.
QR code readers reading URL-type codes will bring you to websites when viewed from an Internet-connected smartphone (which can then track you), but Fez doesn't use those QR code types.
