I just encountered a interesting RNG result. See the marked star? It cannot be jumped to, from anywhere. YES I have on-mouse-over-routes turned on. Could the game in theory, make such a star the exit point, therefore preventing someone from continuing.
Can the exit beacon be unreachable from all other beacons

With this installed, you have to wait until you find a Zoltan research facility (found in Engi Sectors/Homeworlds and Zoltan Sectors/Homeworlds), in addition to the normal options is a blue option to have them examine the capsule.
You will then aquire a new, special, crew member.
Now you need to find the Rock Homeworld sector. Here you may find a random event involving an 'ancient device', using your specialist crew member you have to trigger the blue response option.
You will suddenly travel to a new, hidden, sector. In this sector is a quest marker. Go to this quest marker and this new ship will unlock, the Crystal Cruiser.

Complete the game (defeat the Rebel Flagship) with both Type A and Type B of every ship except the Lanius Cruiser.
Additional Layouts
Type B (All Ships)
Complete two of the three ship achievements for the same type of ship.
Type C (All Ships except Lanius and Crystal, that have A and B only)
Reach sector 8 with Type B of the same ship and Advanced Edition Content enabled.
Doesn't seem possible to get this achievement currently. Used on Flagship wave3, with the cloak up: 3 missiles, 3 laser rounds AND the power surge laser spray all missing in one go. Didn't work.
Repeated with 0 shields on. Didn't work.
Removed engine power to prevent dodging, resulted in only a 60% dodge chance from the cloak alone, which resulted in pretty much every single projectile hitting at once and the entire ship filled with flames. Twice. 60% dodge my ass.
Something is definitely bugged with it at the moment.

No, the game is never unbeatable due to inaccessible exit beacons. There should also never be an inaccessible quest beacon. However inaccessible beacons do exist, and it's by design.
