I'm playing XCom Enemy Unknown on a PC using an XBox 360 controller. For some reason, I'm unable to see the "More Info" dialog. The keybinding shows up as LS, which I assume is the Left Stick. See screenshot below:
The LS is used for navigating the soldier to a location, so I can't use it. When I switch to keyboard/mouse, I can see a nice button for More Info.
Is this a bug, or am I missing something obvious?
In the Store page of every Steam Game you can check if one of these symbols is available.

Usually in all recent games (2-3 years), if a controller is enabled, there are high possibility that Microsoft Xbox 360 works and is well supported.
But to be sure I always suggest to take a look to that game specific forum. Most of times there are users that already asked for Xbox 360 compatibility.
I'm still interested in the real answer to this question, but in the end, I just found a controller that works.
For anyone else who really wants to do this, keep trying different controllers until you find one that works. I recommend quality console controllers (gamecube, PS2, xbox) if you already have them, connected using USB adapters, or cheap USB gamepads from eBay.
The one that worked for me cost about $7 (bought from wholesaler xinga.com years ago but try ebay etc). It's a semi-transparent (purple) chinese knock-off of the standard PlayStation 2 dualshock controller. Windows recognises it as "PS converter", so the electronics are probably identical to USB PlayStation 2 controller adapters sold by the same company (and many/most other companies, probably).

Both of the thumb sticks on the XBOX 360 controller can be pressed down as buttons - they will noticeably click under your thumb when this is done correctly.
So, I think the game wants you to click the left thumb stick.
I've not played XCOM with a controller to know for sure, but since the icon tip is the term LS ("Left Stick", as you guess, sounds right) in a circle with a down arrow inside the circle, I think this is the most likely answer.
