I've been playing quite a lot of competitive games of CS:GO and after Christmas holidays my rank has disappeared, since I didn't play at all during holidays. On Steam forums are only troll answers, so I couldn't look it up there…
Is there some kind of inactivity lock (and when does does it trigger)?
And (more importantly) how do I get my rank back?
That's actually a setting in game related to where you want to draw viewmodels.
If you click on Game Options, scroll down to Item Options, and mouse over the Viewmodel Position, you get three choices, Desktop, Couch and Classic.
Each puts the viewmodel in a different place, making inspecting the weapons a little different. The differences between each setting:
To get a camera view from far away, you'll want to have the Classic option selected. From what your picture looks like, you have it on Desktop, you'll want to switch to Classic viewmodels.
You must WIN 10 matches before your rank is calculated. So playing 2 matches won't allow you to find it anyway.

Every new account will display its skill group after 10 Wins (NOT 10 games) and every expired rank due to inactivity will be displayed after a Win (again, not a game). The Skill Group displayed is based on Elo Points, not the other way around. This is the most important thing to remember.

Your CS:GO competitive ranking (which is different from player ranking) is hidden and decays if you are inactive for around a month. This allows players that are still active to continue to essentially take your spot at whatever rank you were; meaning that your rank will go down if enough time passes.
Simply winning one competitive match should give you a rank again.
