Dark Souls – busiest platform

Dark Souls is, by far, the greatest game I have ever played and I will never forget the freezing cold winter when I stayed at home most days and played it about 5 years ago. I had it on xbox 360.

I'll admit I am not the world's greatest video gamer, and I summoned help for almost all bosses, and it has become the one thing that has put me off picking it up again and playing it. I just can't imagine ever seeing myself being a good enough player to beat Ornstein & Smough, and the day I beat the Capra Demon in Undead Burg was practically a highlight of my gaming career.

So if I were start playing again, which platform would be the best to start playing on in terms of people still playing online? And are there any ways to make it easier to access other players in the game world?

As someone currently playing through the game for the first time on PC, I can say that there is definitely a thriving online community there right now. I always have options for summoning other players (not just NPCs) outside of boss doors and there are a surprising number of new messages being dropped.

My one hesitation is that I have found my ability to connect to that online mode spotty. Sometimes I'll make it halfway through a level (with lots of deaths in between) with no messages or phantoms in sight before they suddenly appear everywhere. I don't know if this is related to the game, my computer (a laptop that is beginning to show its age), or something to do with my DSFix setup, but to answer your question, when I am connected to the online community there are always online options.

Selling items in dark souls

There is an NPC, Kingseeker Frampt, that will consume your items in exchange for souls. He appears near the Firelink Shrine after you have rung the two bells. So yes, there is a way to sell item, but not until later in the game.

However, there is almost no limit to the number of items you can have in your inventory (see this question Is there a limit to the number of item in inventory?). You can hold up to 1984 different items in your inventory, and if you purchase the Bottomless Box, from a merchant in the Depth, you can store all those items in it and have a manageable inventory.

However, I think you should just drop the duplicate items because the resell value is really low. This table, from one of the Dark Souls wiki, shows how many souls you'll gain from each class of item:

Copper Coin                1000
Some unique items          5000

Even if you resell 1000 longswords, you'll only gain 50000 souls. Compared to the time it will take you to sell all of them, and to manage your inventory, I think it is not a good trade-off. There are quicker ways farm souls.

During your second play through, reselling some of the unique items may be a cheap way to get some souls. However, reselling basic items does not seem interesting to me.

Dark Souls P2DE: Little shining worm

The creature you probably saw (confirmed in comment) was a crystal lizard.

I have not played dark souls, I am still trying to get through demon souls ng+, but by my research they behave similar to crystal lizards from demon souls. They spawn in the same spot a number of times per play through equal to 1+the number of bosses you have defeated in the area.

The axe you mention being droped from the demon taurus is the "Demon's Greataxe"

It is a rare drop from the monster, but is available for purchase.
