Diablo – Are stats totally random when crafting

When you craft an item (Shoulders, Gloves, etc…) are the stats affected by the type of item, or they are absolutely random?

For example, the other day I tried to craft some gloves, and I was getting Intelligence and Dexterity all the time, but I thought it was totally random!

Each item you craft randomly selects an appropriate number of properties, based on the levels of the item/blacksmith. As it's totally random, you could very well end up with the same stats on the same items, but it's just luck of the draw (or bad luck, if you're not getting what you want on the item).

For example, last night I created a yellow helm that had 3 properties:

1% increased crit chance
1.1% damage converted to health
an empty socket

I created another helmet right after and got

11 Intelligence
12 Vitality
+3 damage on hit (I think, drawing a blank on the last property)

Anyway, the point is, yes, it's entirely random.

There are more options now. Starting in patch 1.0.5, Blizzard has been adding recipes that guarantee a particular stat. First came the Hellfire Rings (see here for instructions).

Patch 1.0.7 added five new recipes, each of which comes in four variants. Each variant comes with a specific primary stat: Dexterity, Intelligence, Strength, or Vitality. For the Jeweler, there are four Amulet variants.

That's currently twenty-four recipes with a guaranteed roll of some stat.

Strength

Each point increases Barbarian's damage by 1%
Each point increases armor by 1 for every class

Vitality

Each point increases your Life (dependent on your level, higher level=more vitality per point. See below for formulas) for every class

Life when player level < 35 = 36 + 4 × Level + 10 × Vitality

Life when player level ≥ 35 = (level - 25) × Vitality

Each point increases Wizard's and Witch Doctor's damage by 1%
Each point gives .1 to all resists for every class

Dexterity

Each Point also increases Monk's Armor by 1 with the Seize The Initiative passive unlocked at level 20.
Each point increases Monk's and Demon Hunter's Damage by 1%

Each point increases chance to dodge for every class

  Dex range     Dodge% per point of Dex
