Diablo – Does the quality of white items give different craft results

Some of the new crafting recipes for legendary or set items require regular white items in order to craft them.

I've been saving superior or masterwork white items for eventual use in these crafts. But it occurs to me that I have no idea if these are even worth keeping for this use. On one hand, they're pretty rare to find, and that limits how many I can craft. On the other, if they actually do provide better quality crafts, there's an advantage in using them. But if they don't, I've been passing by lots of white items for no reason at all.

Does this level of quality for white items play any part at all in these crafts?

As of patch 2.0.5.

Legendary crafted recipes no longer require specific Common armors or weapons and instead now require Common crafting materials

They also did NOT previously affect the quality of the items.

Your problem is that you expect the loot to be better simply based on the type of monster (namely, a boss or mini-boss). This is not the case. While these monsters are guaranteed to drop X items that are magic (or later, possibly rare) or above, the ratios of magic:rare:legendary:set is still the same. You simply remove the lower tier items from those calculations. So, if the ratios are 100 magic per 25 rares per 5 legendary per 1 set (and I know those aren't the right ratios, but bear with me), then you still have a 100/131 = 76% chance of getting a magic item, regardless of the monster you just defeated.

While your magic find is effectively 100% on these monsters, the loot that they drop is just as good as any other monster that happens to pass the magic find check.
