In Dragon Age:Origins, whenever you found a codex page you would get XP. You knew this because the amount you earned would appear in the corner of the screen, much like it does when you disarm a trap or open a chest in DA2. My question is, even though you don't see any XP shown when you find a page, I have noticed characters level up after finding one, so does this mean I am getting XP?
Do the codex pages give you XP, like they did in DA:O

The three class combo statuses (Brittle, Staggered and Disoriented) each have an icon that is given whenever they are mentioned on the ability description pages. Like so (apologies for the colour contrast, but the game's UI is dark):
Whenever a combatant is suffering from one of these statuses, they have a three-dimensional version of the icon floating above them. Here's are some screen shots of enemies who are afflicted by these three statuses:
Brittle
Staggered
Disoriented
Finally, note that the easiest way to take advantage of the class combo statuses is to configure your party members' tactics so that they respond to an enemy who has the relevant status with a relevant ability.
I also had issues with this battle using a party with no tank. A few things helped me finally beat it:
- Whenever a party member is targeted for melee by the rock wraith, kite him around, he'll do much less damage if you just stay away from him and let your ranged attackers continue to do damage.
- Watch for him to form up into a shield, as he will then do a fast rolling attack targeting one party member. If you can figure out who he is targeting, its an easy dodge by running perpendicular to his charge.
- Save your aoe/damage over time spells (i.e. Firestorm, Tempest, etc) for when he falls to pieces in a rock pile. He is immobile and will take full damage.
- Focus down his minions that he calls in while he's in the rock pile state first, before attacking him directly. Once they're all dead, focus all your attacks on the rock pile.
- Lastly, always pay attention for when he will do his AOE shining light attack as it causes mass damage that is hard to recover from. Successfully hiding behind a pillar for this attack makes a huge difference.
- Chug potions like there's no tomorrow. If you have any poisons for your rogues to use, drink them too.
This is easily the hardest battle thus far into the game.

I just tried this. Yes, you do get experience. I took note of my character's xp bar in the character screen and I received 50xp for getting a codex item.
