Fallout – What happens when a vault dweller levels

Does leveling up a vault dweller ever cause his stats to increase, or is leveling purely for getting caps? It seems like I only ever get caps and nothing else good. Can someone explain what all happens (health increase, more damage, anything?) when you level up a person in your vault?

According to the in-game guide their health is based upon their level. With out actual numbers and since the dangers seem to scale along with your dwellers though, this is a bit hard to qualify from an end-user standpoint.. but that is what the guide says leveling does.

This shows the same damage being done to different level players and there is a clear difference over the length of the encounter. So level up those characters! It keeps them alive longer!

The quality of items you find is directly tied to the length of time the dweller is out in the wasteland. Their survivability of course is related to their level (health) and the number of stims/radaways you give them.

Basically just wait longer. The longer they are out there, the better chance of getting a better drop. There are no guarantees of course, but if they can survive out there for several more days, leave them for as long as you can and you should get better drops. Since they take no damage or radiation while on their way back, you can wait until they are literally 1 hp away from death before recalling them to get maximum exploration time.

Fallout – Are fixed damage weapons worse than damage range weapons

My impression is that the list is sorted by maximum damage first, then by minimum damage. The minimum damage value is used as tie breaker. It just happens that, for fixed damage weapons, the minimum and maximum damage values are the same.

If you invert the min/max damage values for each weapon so that the max value is shown first, and represent fixed damage as a min/max range with the same value repeated, we get the following list:

Enhanced Sawed-Off Shotgun: 8-6
Rusty Laser Pistol:         7-7
Sawed-Off Shotgun:          7-6
Enhanced Hunting Rifle:     7-5
Rusty Sawed-Off Shotgun:    6-6

According to this interpretation, the rank of a weapon does not depend on whether it is a fixed or range damage weapon. It just depends on its max/min damage values.
