Got kick for killing team mate in CS:GO but didn’t fire a shot that round

Something was wrong with a competitive game in CS:GO:

After I have died, a member of my team was killed by me, although I was already spectating the player in question.

There was a lot of smoke and I wasn’t paying much attention; so I did see who killed him, however I did get there severe warning you get when you kill someone “kill 3 more team mates…” I was willing to overlook this and just carried on the game. My Team suggest that say to throw it a spawn so they think we are camped there. I think it’s not worth the effort of not doing it and getting shouted at so I go and waste $50. Ones done I head to bomb A (inferno) my mini map say that my whole team is still at spawn but I don’t really care. But then I get kick for killing too many of my team mates. I haven’t fired a shot all round all I did was throw that decoy graded.

So my question is what did I do? How can I make a team kill although I just threw a decoy in the whole round?

Every grenade does damage- especially in this case when they hit people. They don't damage much, but it still counts as friendly fire, so be careful where you throw your grenades.

Steam – Changing team name that appears in stats in CS:GO

The team names are representative of the groups that you belong to on Steam.

How does the CSGO penalty system work

The ban systems works as follows:

1st infraction: 30 min.
2nd infraction: 2 hours.
3rd infraction: 24 hours
4th infraction: 7 days

Any one of these infractions get reset after 7 days.

How the banning system works (To the extent of my knowledge):

1. Dealing 80/90+ damage to a teammate at start of game will be instant ban.
2. Doing 400+ of damage to teammate(s) over the period of the whole game can get you banned. (You usually get a warning telling you that you have done a lot of damage and the next time you attack a friendly you will be kicked)
3. Killing 3 teammates

How you got kicked and he didn't: He didn't get kicked purely because it wasn't at the start of the game and in spawn. When it's like that the game knows that there are enemies around and sometimes that you are likely to either accidentally attack your team mate or maybe even kill him. For this they make exceptions. However if you were to do it as a continuous burst of fire (so all his bullets hit you without any pause) then he would have gotten kicked/banned.

In cases like that all can really do is report him through the use of the scoreboard as someone has mentioned in the comments section.
