In starbound I have a path down to the core, but it is very difficult to use my second jump to alleviate fall damage. Can I use water or a certain block to eliminate this, such as slime blocks in Minecraft?

Upbeat Giraffe added keybindings menu in Options > Controls. Simply click on the button you want to rebind and click the key you want to use. You can bind 2 keys for each action. To remove the other key, bind the only one you want twice:
Binding move up to S twice, then W twice.
Alternatively you can click the trash bin icon to unbind the key, then bind it to the key you want. Remember to accept your changes before returning back to the options menu!
Those using an older version of the game can through the config files.
First, go to your game executable directory. You can get here by opening steam -> right-clicking Starbound in your library -> Properties -> Local Files Tab -> Browse Local Files
If you've been playing this game at all, there should be a file called starbound.config.

According to currently available sources, farming is not affected by any external factors (soil type, rainfall, biome, temperature etc.). The only factor that affects plant growth is the growth rate of the particular crop. Toxic Tops require roughly 280 growth cycles, whereas Wheat only requires 27 cycles (a growth cycle represents the interval at which the game calculates growth, and is 20 seconds).

Use Gravity Bubble tech/ability to instantly remove all velocity from a safe distance from the ground. You can then start falling again, with the fall distance reset to zero, which means no damage when you touch the ground.
Beware of trying to use Bouncy tech because if you don't have enough space around you for the bouncy orb to appear, you will fall and receive damage. Only use it in wide drops, and even then consider Gravity Bubble for more safety.
