I've installed Skyrim, and I'm playing in windowed mode. I want to be able to alt-tab to interact with IM windows or my browser while I'm auto-running to some distant location, but the game pauses when the window loses focus. Is there some .ini option to prevent this?

Here are some more mouse-trap applications, like CSMMT which Shaun's answer mentioned, that trap your mouse cursor in one screen of a multi-monitor setup:
- MouseTrap
- MouseJail
- MurGeeMon (supports Lock Mouse Cursor On a Monitor)

I can't vouch for any of these, but you can try them out. You can also search for more with keywords "multi monitor trap mouse" or similar.
The suggested SkyrimPrefs.ini i was using was the wrong one.
Using Process Monitor i was able to figure out that the correct one is:
%USERPROFILE%\Documents\My Games\Skyrim\SkyrimPrefs.ini
e.g.
C:\Users\Ian\Documents\My Games\Skyrim\SkyrimPrefs.ini
Changing [Controls]\fMouseHeadingSensitivity to
fMouseHeadingSensitivity=0.1250 (new)
fMouseHeadingSensitivity=0.0125 (old)
did the trick.

Now, you can alt-tab and the game will continue to render in the background. I recomend running in (borderless) windowed mode so you can see what is happening. I find this very useful for letting my housemates play on the TV while I do work on my other two monitors.
