Minecraft – get a basic list of all permissions that I can deny/allow in PEX

I am currently building my server, and I chose the PEX Bukkit plugin.

It is so far very easy to use. (Although I am a programmer, so any weird settings file that you have to edit using the command line hooked via SSH to your Raspberry Pi is easy.) That's not the point.

I have been wondering is there a Wiki or similar page that lists all the basic permissions in a fresh Bukkit install? I can easily get them for my mods mods; almost all of them are well supported and have a little section on their page. The ones that aren't I would never give away the power to use them "cough cough anti-greif." However I cannot find a simple list of the basic permissions that will be compatible with PEX.

What I want are things like "stop server" or "help" that are standard to Minecraft.

I believe you are referring to the permission nodes that are integrated into Bukkit already, such as /say, /plugin, /help, /stop, etc. You can find them all on the Bukkit Wiki, in a nice, organized table.

Your problem may be that you are an OP on your server. I had this problem when setting up one a server – OPs seem to have permissions to access all commands (the * permission node), even if Essentials is trying to override it.

From your description it seems that you have done it in exactly the opposite order. (It would help if you also posted your script, though.)

When you 'inherit', it means the 'child' will inherit all of the parent's members and can also add its own. So basically what you did was, you let anybody (even default) use everything it inherited from every group all the way up to owner.
So basically what you need to do is:

define the default group
define member and set its parent (i.e. let it inherit from) default
let moderator inherit from member
and so on.

That should be it.

Edit: Yesterday at night I was pretty tired, about to go to sleep and a bit worried whether what I wrote would make any sense in the morning. Luckily it doesn't look that bad; so I'll even add an example now. :)

Make your yml file like this:

groups:
  Guest:
    default: true
    permissions:
    - modifyworld.*

  Member:
    default: false
    inheritance:
    - Guest
    permissions:
    ...etc

(I've named the default group Guest for clarity.)
