Minecraft – How to fill multiple chests with hoppers

I have a mob spawner (the KaspersMC type, a 9*9*5 room that uses water to push mobs down a hole.)

At the bottom of the drop hole I have a hopper feeding a double chest. So when I kill the mobs all their drops go into the hopper, and then into the double chest.

How can I expand this to include more than one double chest?

Here's an image of what I want to do. This obviously doesn't work.

I don't care what order stuff fills. I don't care about sorting. I don't care if the hoppers store stuff (so long as that doesn't block anything.)

This is on the "pc" version, offline, no mods, not a server, vanilla etc.

Hoppers collect items from above only. Either they are directly falling into the hopper, or there is a box on top of the hopper containing items.

However, they can push items into e.g. a chest either below or besides them.

Because of this, your items will be stored in the left chest, but they will not be pulled out by the right hopper and placed in the right chest.

You can build something like this (side view):

The most resource efficient way I can come up with to power a horizontal line of droppers is this

with the redstone line on the left being connected to a clock. This works because the repeaters strongly power the dropper they are pointing into causing the droppers to the left and right to be indirectly powered.

The vertical line of droppers is powered as described in this Youtube video, with a comparator being used to send a (inverted by a redstone torch) signal to a vertical stack of redstone torches powering repeaters pointing into every 2nd vertical dropper.

With regards to the specific situation you are in the most resource efficient way to get the mobs from the exit of the spawner to the 'home' area would be to bring them up high enough using a mob elevator (a 1x1 tube filled with alternating water blocks and signs will cause the mobs to swim themselves up to the top) to a point where they can be dropped down the required number of blocks.

The only pitfall with this type of system is ensuring that the mobs fall a consistent distance everytime. All that is required to do this is to ensure that the water stream at the top of the elevator is set up like this

(where ~ = water and S is a sign)

So that mobs get pushed into the drop shaft by other mobs pushing against them instead of directly by a water stream.

Minecraft – more efficient – Liquid XP from OpenBlocks or Mob Essence from MFR

OpenBlocks Liquid XP has two big advantages: first, it stores 50 XP/bucket compared to LXP's 10; second, if you put it into an OpenBlocks tank, you can right-click with an empty hand to instantly consume enough XP to gain one level. LXP requires you to use a Fluid Transposer to put the XP into Bottles O' Enchanting in order to gain levels.
