Minecraft – Lan on PC with a Windows 10 computer for Minecraft

I used to be able to simply create a LAN game on my computer (which was using Windows 7), and my wife could find it on her computer in multiplayer and join me. We have upgraded our computers to Windows 10 and now we can't find each other anymore. No firewall option can change it, and yes I am aware of the server making stuff but I simply want a LAN game which works. Could anyone help ?

Windows 10 has a slightly different network setup to previous versions. You may need to join the same workgroup, you can find information on that here.

Another possibility is that it is permissions based. Have a look at what security settings you have set.

If everyone is on the same LAN, you do not need to port forward in order to play.

You need to do two things:

First, find your local IP. For Windows, start CMD as administrator, type in ipconfig and press enter. Next to IPv4 Address should be something that looks like 192.168.1.X where X is one ore more numbers. Remember this number, with the dots.

Next, start up your server.

Finally, have people connect to the IP you found earlier, 192.168.1.X.

Minecraft – Constant LAN port

According to Minecraft's Wiki, you can use the /publish command.

/publish [port]

port: integer

    Must be a 32-bit integer number. And it must be between 0 and 65535 (inclusive).
    The port to host on. If not specified, a random port above 1024 is chosen.
