Minecraft – Most Efficient Way To Mine Cobblestone

This Question neatly describes the best way to mine for incredibly rare ores. This is all well and good.

I don't want the rare stuff though, as crazy as that sounds. I want stacks upon stacks upon STACKS of cobblestone to build myself a sprawling elaborate stone fortress.

I am aware that Cobblestone Generators exist, but I feel my one-block-at-a-time generator is incredibly inefficient, and especially so when, half of the time, my cobblestone falls into the lava and I have to wait for a new one to appear.

I also feel like it's distinctly possible that "just digging' may be my best bet, but I keep running into massive blocks of dirt and gravel that annoy me to no end.

So, what is the quickest, easiest, and most efficient way to mine a ton of cobblestone?

One way would be to expand your cobblestone farm a little and go with this design

I found that even with iron pick It took two of us to keep up.

P.S put A Non-Pushable Block above the outputs to stop it getting too high

Any mob trap within 16 blocks of the bottom of the map will catch slimes as well, but you have to be careful to not hurt the slimes too much to get them to split the most. Punching and drowning are the safest ways to ensure that they'll split into more slimes. Also, you want a large room so that bigger slimes will spawn which can then have more splits.

The most important thing besides the depth is that it's in a chunk suitable for slimes. Slimes can only spawn in 10% of the chunks, picked randomly depending on the seed. They only spawn a tenth as often as other mobs, but they'll also spawn in any light level, so if you're digging for diamonds at bedrock level, you'll usually find quite a few naturally.

Minecraft – What’s the most efficient way to get experience

I made a pretty quick and dirty XP farm as such:

Find a zombie spawner, punch out all the blocks around it, leave 3ish blocks of space all around it, making a big dark room around the spawner.

Put water source(s) at one end of the room, pulling every zombie that drops to the other side of the room. Make a 1-wide hallway for the water to flow into. Where the water stream ends, put in a 1x1 vertical shaft for the zombie to drop down (place this RIGHT AFTER the water, don't let water flow down the hole).

Make the bottom of the "tube" out of glass so you can see the zombies inside the "kill zone". Leave a single block at the bottom so that you can swing your sword at the zombie's feet.

I made my vertical shaft high enough to take away ALMOST all the zombie's health. If the fall kills them, no XP bubbles. I got mine to the perfect height that I can 1-shot all the zombies with a stone sword (you wouldn't believe how fast this goes through swords).
