When I click Minecraft Realms on my iPad I get booted out. I cannot login. I paid for an Realms subscription… what did I do wrong?

To have the Play on Realms button, you must have a server or be invited to a Realms server.
If you are invited to Realms, you would have a main menu looking like this:
If you are not invited to Realms, you would have a main menu looking like this:
If you want to connect to an external server, tap Play and then Edit. Tap external and then press add. Tap on the server and you should be able to connect. Using the Minecraft for Multiplayer App should be similar.
I've just done this for my two kids - it took a while to work out!
I set all the options for Xbox Live for the two accounts to 'Allow Friends'. That wasn't enough. I also had to go to the Xbox One page and check 'Join Multiplayer Games'. Then it worked.
Note that there is a short delay when changing settings online. This may give the impression that it hasn't worked when actually the game simply hasn't rechecked permissions.

Realms Mobile was shut down, unfortunately, due to the developers wanting to focus on the single player gameplay. However, you can still play LAN games, and when it comes out, online multiplayer.
