Minecraft – way to summon a large area of chickens in Minecraft

Basically is there a way to do this fill 0 4 0 5 4 5 minecraft:chicken but with valid Minecraft syntax?

And perhaps if some blocks were occupied by armour stands, prevent the chickens from spawning where the armour stands are.

The /fill command only accepts blocks as input. Chickens are entities, so you can't place Chickens with /fill. The only way to 'place' entities is to use a spawn egg or /summon.

put a slab on the square you are standing on and leave a 1 square gap in the direction the water is flowing from (use glass if you want to be able to see what's coming). The slab will prevent anything from being pushed through but you will automatically pick up the items as they approach.

The chickens won't be able to move into where you are due to the half slab keeping them in the water tile beneath the glass.

Unfortunately if you want to remove the lava completely and then be where that pool is gravel/sand really is the best way to go about clearing that out.

The only alternate that I can think of would be to bucket every block of lava out and then put it into a single block area. This would then just require a single piece of gravel to get rid of. If you are good at bucketing then this might be a bit faster and save you on some shovels.
