Minecraft – What can mine Ardite and Cobalt

In Modded Minecraft FTB HermitPack 1.10, the mod "Tinkers' Construct" adds both Cobalt Ore and Ardite Ore. According to the FTB Wiki, to mine these ores, you need a pickaxe "made with Alumite or Steel." However, none of these work:

Alumite is not available in HermitPack
Steel pickaxes have a mining level of "Obsidian," which is not strong enough to mine either of these ores
Ardite/Cobalt/Manyullyn pickaxes are not available to me unless I've already mined Ardite/Cobalt ore

Is there any way to mine these ores or otherwise convert them into drops?

The Obsidian Pickaxe Head from Tinkers' Construct has a mining level of "Cobalt". So a pickaxe made with an Obsidian head is able to mine both Cobalt and Ardite. (At least in HermitPack 1.2.1)

Obsidian parts can be made in the part builder, for the record.

There is an option for Tinkers Construct that disables the use of wooden tools. In this case Flint Tools are the way to go for you, get some gravel and craft it into flint (yes, you won't get any from grinding, just put 3 gravel in your crafting menu)

Before you can craft the flint tools you will have to craft all tool stations Tinkers Construct offers. You can find their recipes in the book you spawned with when starting in that world.

With the stencil you can create the patterns for the parta you need and finally you can get your first flint tools. With those progressing is more or less easy, depending on which Mods are installed.

The following snippet was taken from the Project E source code (utils/ItemHelper):

This seems to indicate that Project E uses the Forge Ore Dictionary to determine if something is an ore.

Other than asking the developers of a mod to add their ores to the dictionary, there isn't much you can do. If you want to add vanilla blocks to this dictionary, you will have to create a Forge mod yourself.
