Nethack for Windows Mobile

I'm looking for a good version of Nethack to run on my Windows Mobile phone. I currently have Windows NetHack graphical version 3.4.3, and it kind of drives me a little nuts, moreso from a usability and playability standpoint.

I don't know if this is because I'm trying to run it on a phone, but I'm hoping somebody here has a better suggestion for a client.

Now, onto specific wishes, so this doesn't get modded into subjective-oblivion….

Needs to have good interaction with a physical keyboard — for instance, I kept typing C to attempt to name my kitten, but I kept getting an invalid direction…not sure if this is a result of the keyboard mapping or something else, but basically my current client doesn't seem to follow commands listed within the help
Good/decent tileset – I'm not a terribly huge fan of learning the ASCII representations of the Nethack-verse…this may be a bit of a slap in the face to the nature of the game, but I really really like having the graphical tiles to show me what's going on.
Decent GUI – it'd be really nice if a shortlist of commands was available so that I could easily remember that typing E allows me to engrave
Decent save system – if I previously had a game going under a character named 'E' I will be unable to overwrite this saved game…I need to dig around in my OS files to find where the save game is and delete it by hand.

Ok, since it seems like the answer to my previous question is no, then I will follow up with this one (it should still fall within the realm of the title).

Is there some sort of disconnect between the vanilla Nethack commands and the WinMo client? As I mention above, I am having problems in using keyboard commands with the gameplay. I have tried both with my physical keyboard, and with the onscreen keyboard in the client, and no matter what I tried, I could not name my kitten. I have not gone through all the commands, but I've noticed that there are other little issues that I can't remember offhand.

I am not sure which file you need to find for windows mobile, but I'm pretty sure that you can change a file, which will change the controls, which will at least fix your controls problem.

Your only hope currently is to run DF on a Linux machine and create a terminal to it. You will also need to set the output type to curses with the following changes in the config file.

[SOUND:NO]
...
[PRINT_MODE:TEXT]

I would also suggest making the following change in the init file for ease of play (the intro doesn't work well in curses mode).

[INTRO:NO]

However with the small screen and small keyboard DF will probably still not be at its best.

Avoiding hunger in Nethack

There are two parts to the hunger problem in NetHack: gaining nutrition and reducing nutrition loss.

Under normal conditions, each turn, you lose one point of nutrition. You start with 900 nutrition, and start feeling hungry when you drop below 150. At 0, you'll faint. Starving to death happens at a negative value based on your constitution.

Nethack is a very complex game, so there are exceptions to most of the guidelines below, and other, more obscure ways of sustaining yourself, but these general principles are good guidelines.

Gaining nutrition

Comestibles. The most straightforward way to gain nutrition is to eat comestibles (labeled as % - food, meat and corpses). The amount of nutrition you get depends on what you eat. Early on in the game is often the riskiest time; you may not start with much food. At this stage, it's normal to eat as many fresh, safe corpses as you can get your hands on. If you make it that far, there is guaranteed food in the Sokoban levels, which are accessed somewhere between levels 6-10.
Praying. Praying while weak will restore your nutrition, but safe use depends on your current prayer timeout. Also, using up your favour with your god could backfire if you have a sudden unforseen need (e.g. you have gained a fatal illness like food poisoning, or are being turned to stone).
Convert boulders to food. As theist points out, you can convert boulders to huge chunks of meat if you have the stone to flesh spell. These are hugely nutritious (2000 points).

Reducing nutrition loss

Wear a ring of slow digestion. This is a great item, if you can find one. It changes your rate of nutrition consumption to 5% of your normal rate (giving you twenty times as long to find food). As Grace Note points out in the comment below, this is because you are only paying the nutrition cost of the ring - your standard rate of consumption is halted.
Take off your rings. In general, you lose one nutrition every twenty turns for each ring or amulet you wear. Rings of regeneration are particularly pernicious; if you're wearing one, you'll lose a point every other turn.
Drop your stuff. If you're Stressed or heavier, you lose a point every other turn.
Don't cast spells. Spellcasting makes you hungry (unless you're a wizard with high Intelligence).
