As Ireland I have Holland as a vassal. Both of us have colonized Brazil so there is an Irish Brazil and a Dutch Brazil. Will annexing Holland result in having 2 colonial nations in the same colonial area? Or will the two merge?

I just tested this under the latest version of 1.9 on non-Ironman by playing as a Japanese daimyo, annexing another daimyo through console, and releasing them through the "Release Subjects" dialog. They remain your vassals, even after monthly/yearly ticks.
If anyone else is having this problem, you just need to core 5 provinces, or the amount of provinces you need to have 5 in that place. You dont need 5 to colonize, you need 5 cores to make a colonial nation. Of course, colonize give you free cores.
