Both the incense and Mystery Box spawns extra Pokemon. Even with the current extra spawns from the incense, I am waiting in between spawns when I am sitting at home. I would like to combine an incense with a Mystery Box so that I have more spawns, and can actually continue catching for a full hour. Is this possible?

When you encounter a pokémon, one of the icons that appears will be labelled AR. AR stands for Augmented Reality. Simply select this toggle to turn it on or off.
This took me a while to notice, but when in its 'off' state, pokémon go plays in a pre-rendered scene, as opposed to using the camera and gyro.
In laymans terms, the pokémon will always be straight in front of you. You do not have to move the phone around sporadically in order to keep the pokémon on screen, and can play pokémon go as if it was a typical phone game.
jdero's comment is correct, while it may seem like Pokemon are drawn to the lure, they are definitely spawned on the lure. Areas have a list of Pokemon that are more likely to spawn there so you will see that nearby Pokemon are also the Pokemon that spawn at lures. A few factors make this very apparent. Firstly, in an area with multiple lures activated in close proximity a Pokemon will show up ever 5 minutes or so. The natural spawn rate of any are couldn't support this. Second, I have, while being in one such area, seen naturally spawning Pokemon appear every 20 or so minutes(about average) in addition to the ones spawned by the module. lastly, I have NEVER seen a rarer Pokemon move after using an incense or module near it (within 2 paws), and was able to go out and find said Pokemon after the lure was activated nearby in its original spot. Also incense works the same way as lures except instead of a proximity to spawn in, they spawn directly on top of you.

If you have an active incense, and open up a Mystery Box, the animation is working correctly so you might think it worked, but what is actually happening is that you consume another incense. This means that your incense duration is another hour longer, one incense is removed from your inventory, and not more spawns per minute.
If you have an active Mystery Box, you get an error message when trying to apply a lure. This is probably because you do not have another Mystery Box in your inventory.
No matter the order, it does not yield you more spawns per minute, so you have to be happy with the current number of spawns per minute.
