I'm considering selling my old blue 3DS to help fund a New 3DS. The 3DS I bought was the one that came bundled with Luigi's Mansion (an uninspired move on my part) and I want to remove my personal data from the console without deleting that game, to add to the value.
My question is: is this possible? Or when I registered my NNID with the console did I eliminate any chance of this working out?
When looking at the port like so:
The left hole is Negative and the right hole is positive. I also believe the pads are the same.
5V also shouldn't hurt it because the charging circuit inside the 3DS should prevent anything bad from happening. I see a lot of 3rd party chargers that are just straight through USB to charge-port.

I just did a system transfer from my 2 year old 3DS to a new 3DS XL. With the current version of the 3DS software, after the transfer is done, the new 3DS wants to use the old 3DS's SD Card. So going through the standard System Transfer process would do exactly what you want!
In my case, I wanted to use the new 3DS XL's SD card since it was bigger than the old 3DS's one. Nintendo has a pretty easy process for this: http://en-americas-support.nintendo.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/309. It's essentially copying the contents of the SD card from old one to the new one via your computer's SD card reader.

This is not possible. When you set up a NNID on your system, the digital copy of Luigi's Mansion was linked to it. You can see this by deleting the game from your system, going to the eShop, and checking redownloadable software - Luigi's Mansion will be there. You can delete a NNID from a 3DS system, but it will also make any linked games unplayable, which would include Luigi's Mansion.
Your options here are to either sell the system as is with your NNID attached and then create a new one on your new system (not optimal if you want to keep your Mii, friend list, StreetPass data, or any of your other downloads), or perform a System Transfer, thus transferring Luigi's Mansion along with it.
