My Turtlebeach headset broke and I don't have much cash to buy a new pair.
Is it possible to use a pair of Bluetooth headphones on my PS3 to hear in game sound? Or do I have to buy a new headset?

Do you still have the RCA composite + left/right audio output cable? (The one with the yellow, red and white plugs.) It is possible to configure the PS3 to output audio to both HDMI and the RCA cable.
Under "Settings" go to "Sound Settings" and turn on "Audio Multi-Output".
On your PS3 Go to Accessory Settings -> Audio Device Settings. You'll find options for microphone volume there. Try adjusting it to the highest level. Also make sure the Input device is set to Wireless Headset (and not, for example, the USB camera). Make sure you confirm your settings by choosing OK, not by exiting pressing O.
Also, I recommend doing the HQ sync for the headset, to do so, plug a USB cable directly into the headset (not into the headset dock). When you'll trun on or off the headset or adjust the volume, you should see the HQ indicator in the top right corner, it looks like this:

It'll work. sure. At least, it should, especially since the traditional in-ear phone-pairing bluetooth always worked. Put your bluetooth device into Pairing mode, and go to the settings tab in the XMB menu and find bluetooth settings, and you should be able to pair from there. I think you can set it up to filter any audio through it too, if I'm not mistaken.
