I played some years ago and used to use a patrol- and hold-position command with my units, but I cannot find it anymore in the game.
Did they abandon that function? and if, why and is there an alternative?
Is there an icon to click on? I use the QWERT keys, so I don't have "P" as it says in all tutorials
The answer is yes, you will be able to install Starcraft II on any future box you have.
Soon after you purchase Starcraft II, you will link your key to your battle.net account. If you don't have a battle.net account yet, you will have to create one. You must link your key to play the game.
Once your account is linked, you never need your key again. What's more, you don't even need the install disc again, as you can download the entire game client off the battle.net site. The disc itself is just a convenient way to install the game; I myself bought it and didn't even use it. The same is now true for any PC Blizzard game released in the past 12 years, including Diablo 2 and the original Starcraft.
What's more, for Starcraft II your match history, achievements, and current campaign progress will also transfer because it's stored on the server. There may be some stuff like Replays which won't transfer over to your new box, but for the most part you will be playing the game where you left off.
The only way you could hose yourself here is by somehow losing access to your battle.net account, for example by forgetting your password or permanently losing your internet connection. I'd recommend against that.
In the options, you can adjust your hot keys to the grid pattern.
This will change the hotkeys so you don't have to remember them...
I would suggest to use Attack Move for long distance Attack commands and Patrol for short distance, both keys will be next to each other which makes it more easier to choose between both.
Other than that, if you are into multi-player too, you might want to consider to learn the habit of attack moving your units through your opponent his army instead of in front.
If you are focus firing units you might want to consider to learn the habit to just (shift) right click on them instead so that when you are surrounding your opponent that you don't accidentally attack your own unit. Right clicking on your own unit cause your army to follow that unit, unless there's another next action in the queue to perform. So accidentally clicks on your own units have no effect when focus firing. Just make sure you don't click the ground instead, as they will walk instead of attack…

You have to disable the option "ENABLE Simple Command Card" in Game Options.
Then you will see that Hold is "E" and Patrol is "R" if you have the QWERT-Keyboardlayout.
An unconvenient alternative to patrolling would be setting a lot of waypoints with Shift-"T"-leftclick
