I've got some non-Steam games that support controllers, but Big Picture Mode only shows them as big generic Steam logos, making them very hard ti pick out from the pack (big picture only shows names on "hover"). In "small picture" mode these games use the Windows icons, which is fine.
How can I set an icon, however ugly, to these games? What format/dimensions should it optimally be?
Do'h! Looks like I just needed to restart Steam (even though I had already gotten the update...)
Then the "Big Picture Mode" button is hard to miss - it's in the upper-right of the Steam UI.
Officially, Steam Support states support for the following.
Currently, Big Picture supports the Xbox 360 Wireless Controller for Windows, the Xbox 360 Wired Controller, and the Logitech Wireless Gamepad F710.
In addition, you can infer support for a variety of third party gamepads that offer similar button layouts and drivers - for instance, any third party Xbox compatible gamepads should work just fine.
With the use of third party drivers like MotioninJoy, a variety of other options are usable as well, though unsupported.

Opt into the client beta and icons for non-Steam games will show up in Big Picture. If the program's icon has high resolution versions it will use them automatically. PNG is also supported and will get scaled to fit.
Currently the icons for non-Steam games will not be visible to streaming clients.
