Steam – Having trouble adding a friend

The invites in MtG:DotP don't always pop up for your friends like they're supposed to. However, your friends can still join your game: In the steam friend's list, they need to click the arrow next to your name, then click "join game." They can bring up the friend's list ingame by hitting shift + tab, or simply by minimizing the game (alt + tab) and opening it from Steam.

You can do the same thing to manually invite friends using your friend's list.

Note that joining and inviting to games both work for most multiplayer Steam games, not just Magic the Gathering.

I had this problem before and I am not exactly sure which of these things fixed it but after doing them the problem stopped occurring.

• Verify Local Content via Steam. To do this right click the game on main menu, go to properties and then there is a button that says verify local content. (Actually one of my friend uninstalled then reinstalled prior to doing this)
• Never use the steam overlay for managing invites with Civ5.
• Defriend and retry then refriend and retry.
• Check your game version numbers match

I was basically trying everything I could think of then it started connecting without problems.
