Every time I open up the browser from within a game in Steam, I am taken to Google. I would much rather this site be the home page of the Steam web browser. I can't seem to figure out how to change it, however.
How do I set the home page of the Steam web browser?
Xfire and PlayXpert offer web browsers as part of their in-game overlays. There is also the Rogue in-game browser. Xfire offer a preview video of their web browser. All look to have tabbed browsing and offer more features than Steam's, though it's hard for me to say whether they meet your expectations.
Both Xfire and PlayXpert also ship with chat clients.
Raptr's in-game overlay supports AIM and I believe XChat makes available an addon to that end also. Personally I'd try Raptr first. Any of the web browsers may also support AIM Express, an official browser-based AIM client.
As of the latest update to Steam, you can now PERMANENTLY remove games from your Steam account!
You can browse over your entire library and choose which software you'd like to permanently get rid of. But note, once you have removed a game from your library, it's gone permanently, so if later down the road you'd like it back you'll have to purchase it again.
You'll also need to watch out for some other issues. The thread linked above has noted that if the game is part of a bundle (HumbleBundle, etc.), removing one game from a "package" may require you to remove all the games from that specific bundle.

The placement of the setting to change the homepage has been changed after the last answer posted here (July 26 2012). It is now located in the "Web Browser" tab.
