I am having problems playing Half Life (Part 1). I mean that since I entered the Black Mesa Research Facility, I go on roaming around here and there. I can see only scientists and few securities. But what do I actually need to do there?

Copy Steam.dll from Steam folder to Steam\SteamApps\<user>\half-life.
Same for "Blue Shift" (Steam\SteamApps\<user>\half-life blue shift) and "Opposing Force" (Steam\SteamApps\<user>\opposing force).
If game crashes at start, see answer from Hidduh (Add hl.exe to Start > Control Panel > System > Advanced > Performance > Data Execution Prevention).
Position yourself towards the corridor with the hanging cables that are electrified. Behind you is a locked room with some scientists which you want to enter.
Turn towards the electricity. On the bottom of the right wall is a ventilation duct. Enter the duct and go to the right. You will enter the locked room. Watch out for the hidden barnacles. On the opposite side of the room to the right is a door, inside is a switch that will disable the power for that part of the map.

You need to find the suit. If you've been going around the map then you've probably seen the locker room. There is the suit, you need to press the button on the console, which will open the suit compartment. Then you need to walk over it to actually put it on (Tip: while you are here, press E on the lockers, one or two of them open and give you some armor).
