Terraria – How to escape a room without a pickaxe

I have gone through many battles, slain countless enemies, farmed bosses, and gotten to hardmode. Now I'm faced with my greatest challenge…

A square room.

I have somehow thrown my only pickaxe through a wall and trapped myself. I have my door blocked off with bricks, and I don't have any explosives in my inventory. I have a bed in here with me (which my spawn is set to) and no pick to mine it up to spawn outside of my room. I can't craft a pickaxe or anvil because my iron and anvil are in another house.

So here is the list of things I have access to:

a Dye Trader
a full set of Crimson armor and accessories
a Pwnhammer
3 Goodie Bags
Torches, Ultrabright Torches, and Glowsticks
Dirt Blocks and other common building items
a Work Bench
a Campfire
an empty Chest
50 Gold Coins

How can I escape this room?

The simplest solution I can see off-hand is to go to another world:

Save and exit the trap world.
Go into a different, second world.
Make a pickaxe, get a bomb, etc.
Save and exit this second world.
Return to your trap world.
Use your item to make your way out.

If you're lucky enough to end up in a lake with rock or dirt sides (not sand) you can dig 3 sideways into the bank and 2-3 up to create an air pocket to jump up into:

# = Dirt / rock / other block
~ = Water
+ = Precious life giving air

From there you can dig your way out. I've done this so often I can now do it in pitch black darkness. Maybe I should learn to look before I leap...

Terraria – My silver pickaxe got damaged. How is it possible

You just got unlucky crafting it. "Damaged" is a random modifier (which decreases damage) assigned to items when they're crafted or drop from monsters. Similar negative modifiers, such as "Broken" and "Shoddy," also exist.

Apart from making a new one, there's not a whole lot you can do about it at this point in the game.

However, later on (after you've defeated your first Goblin Army), you can find and rescue the Goblin Tinkerer, who allows you to reforge weapons, tools and accessories, for a price. By then, you'll likely have a different, way better pickaxe, though.
