The planes have been finally complete in the latest update.
- Model 2004 a.k.a The Classic : your original red ship. Laser whip will replace main cannon after receiving the 'score bonus + new weapon for the classic' card. No more retro mode.
- Enforcer: Main cannon damage +10%
- Iron Clad: Health +50%, speed -10%
- Swift Justice: -50% health, speed +10%. It has the narrowest cannon coverage (focused shots).
- Ambulance: increase rescue speed, low health. It has the widest cannon coverage (3-way shots).
- Limp Berserker: Max firerate, low health
- Ace of Spades: increased card hunting luck, low health
- Gladius: More Firepower, Short Weapon Range
- Octopus: fires mini-rockets.
The maximum levels for each of these pieces of hardware is different than the earlier game, Sky Force 2014.
As of 31st March 2017 the current app version 1.81 has the following upgrade levels. These increases were probably spread out through updates 7 and 8 as the forums have people complaining about no new upgrades in update #9.

- Main Cannon 6
- Wing Cannons 6
- Magnet 3
Missiles 4
Laser 3
- Energy Shield 3
- Mega Bomb 3
On 3rd February 2017 an app update (v 1.81) was published.
On 5th January 2017 an app update (v 1.7) was published. Upgrade changes were made as follows:

The special people are called VIP. Saving them and finishing the stage nets you some extra stars. I don't remember the amount for certain but I believe it was 2k.
